The BMC’s highest priority is to establish a 750-acre Black Mountain Scenic Preserve by acquiring the land above the mountain’s 2,300-foot elevation contour that is contiguous to the existing 250-acre preserve.
Of course, protecting parcels with distinguishing biological, cultural, archeological, geographical, historical, or wildlife habitat features or connections is critical, too.
Additional properties that we believe are important to preserve are those that are prominently visible to surrounding communities, have ridge lines and other prominent geographical features, and where it would be difficult to camouflage structures.
We are not attempting to take away any individual property rights. While we encourage preserving as much land as possible, we also encourage responsible development.
The BMC partners with the following organizations, listed to the right, to identify and create opportunities not only to preserve, but also to live and recreate amongst our desert’s bounteous treasures.
